Chapter 11

NATURE’S ANTICIPATION

IN OUR PREVIOUS CHAPTER WE POINTED OUT THE GROANING going on in creation, waiting for its full redemption at Christ’s return. We ourselves, as human beings, are also groaning along with all creation—waiting for that same exciting redemption!

Even if you are not excited, nature is! In this chapter we will look at a few passages in Psalms 96 and 98 which confirm the eagerness of nature for the redemption of creation that will come at the appearing of the Lord.

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and all its fullness (Psalm 96:11).

It will be tremendous when the sea starts to roar. Jesus said one of the signs immediately prior to His return would be that the sea waves roaring would cause men’s hearts to fail them for fear (see Luke 21:25-26). I believe those two passages are directly related.

Let the sea roar, and all its fullness. Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth (Psalm 96:11-13).

You see, there is no answer for the problems of the world except righteousness. Whether it is our personal problems, the problems of humanity, or the problems of this earth. The only solution is righteousness, and righteousness will not be established until the Lord returns.

RELEASING FAITH

As we continue our survey of the psalms speaking of creation, we come next to Psalm 98. In many ways, although similar to Psalm 96, it is even more vivid—especially in verses 7-9:

Let the sea roar, and all its fullness, the world, and those who dwell in it; let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills be joyful together before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth. With righteousness He shall judge the world, and the people with equity [fairness].

Whenever I read the beginning of this passage aloud, it is almost as if I am helping to set the stage for the appearing of the Lord! When I read that God says, “Let the sea roar,” I can say the same thing with faith. If I simply think about this concept, it doesn’t seem to have much effect. But when I speak it, it is almost as if I am releasing the sea to do its job. This is how I read the Bible. Whenever I pray, much of my praying is releasing God’s word into a situation. I proclaim what God has said.

For instance, consider the situation in Israel in the Middle East. There is an interesting Scripture which says, “For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous” (Ps. 125:3). So when I pray for Israel and the Middle East, I declare this promise into the unseen realm. Because it is in the Word of God and I declare it with faith, it has the same effect as if God Himself said it.
